Remove all software that you installed to get the printer going as Mik suggested. Then disconnect the printer from the computer. Then install the software from the CD and follow its instructions. It will tell you when to connect the printer.

You should ALWAYS install the software from the CD before connecting the device to the computer.

Hope you get it sorted, I usually uninstall everything, make sure no printer is showing and start again.

We're on Vista now so don't have an XP machine up and running to mess with.

I'm a technotard. My usual method is to yell at it until my Spawn or The Mrs. shows up.
Hoping that was helpful.

Hi Janna. Something wacky with your email - I send email but it gets bounced back saying there is no such user. Anyway...

Sounds like a corrupted driver issue. Try this: Go to the Add/Remove Programs panel of the Control Panel. Delete the HP F4200 Series printer (the new one)If it's not there, go to the Printers and Faxes panel on the COntrol Panel. Power off the printer and restart the computer. Once Windows is back up, power the printer back on again, Windows should recognize it and load the drivers. If it asks your for the installation disk, put it in the drive and the Autoplay window should come up offering options on what you can do with the disk - sadly, asking if you want to use it as a Frisbee or a coaster aren't listed. This should do the installation all over again and reinstall the drivers and printer software.

While this is going on, pull up a chair, have some Mountain Dew and practice your quilting.

I KNOW there are so many more people capable of helping you than me...so hopefully they'll come through.

*I* would check to make sure the drivers are up to date (go to HP website in search for drivers for that printer)...read directions to make sure you didn't do anything out of order (I've done that, & it DID make a difference)...and all else fails, I uninstall & reinstall - sometimes that works. If you've never used the other printer, uninstall it; that may be messing something up?

Good luck!
