Every week for the past couple years, I’ve visited a sweet little old lady named Margaret. I give her a manicure, then we sit and chat and watch TV for awhile. It’s nice.
Usually she has some sort of snack or treat for me after the manicure, while we sit and visit and watch TV.
For awhile there, it seemed she was giving me the same dish of mixed nuts every week.
I didn’t complain; they were ok. I wanted to be polite. I nibbled away at them halfheartedly.
Until the day when I noticed something.
The dish was up on a shelf, behind her chair… I happened to be looking in that direction and saw the cat jump up on the ledge and start licking the salt off the nuts.
(!!!)
Margaret didn’t see it happen because her back was to the ledge.
My eyes blinked wide and I froze, realizing that this was probably not the first time the cat had licked them.
How many times had I eaten nuts that had previously been “sampled”?
I may never know.
So, when the sweet little old lady offered me the dish of nuts later on, I politely declined, saying I just wasn’t hungry for some reason.
There’s probably some moral to the story here, but I twitch every time I try to think about it.
(All I can come up with so far is“Stay away from other people’s nuts, because you never know who else has licked them.”)

First Dave’s nuts and now the kitty’s nuts. This inter species dating has got to stop!

Blech!
Posted 28 Sep 2008 at 10:01 pm ¶Jamie: And it was a girl cat! I don’t think she was dating the nuts, though. My guess is that it was just platonic.

Lois: That’s what I thought too!

Ahhh…that’s nothin’, at least you didn’t see the cat licking his own nuts first! Bwaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhaaaa!!!
I’m nuts here.
Posted 28 Sep 2008 at 10:55 pm ¶CWM: That would have been a feat, since it was a girl cat.
Posted 28 Sep 2008 at 10:57 pm ¶That is good advice. LOL
Posted 29 Sep 2008 at 12:23 am ¶Eeeewwwww. Yup, you probably had the sampled ones before…
Posted 29 Sep 2008 at 9:06 am ¶I thought the moral was ‘pussies love salty nuts’
Posted 29 Sep 2008 at 12:04 pm ¶Maybe that’s just me.

Posted 30 Sep 2008 at 12:41 pm ¶Joe: I try!
Ivanhoe: I probably did!
Morgen: Well, they do….
Sherrie: Luckily she doesn’t try to feed me mixed nuts anymore!
Marilyn: Think of it the next time you’re eating snacks in someone else’s house… with cats nearby.
Steve: If only they would read my blogs, they would already know! I think I need to tattoo my URL on their arms or something.

HA!
Posted 01 Oct 2008 at 7:45 am ¶Sounds delicious! I once worked in a Kellogg’s cereal plant. To coat the raisins in Raisin Bran with sugar, we used to stuff handfulls in our mouths and spit them into the sugar bin before they were packaged in the box.
They tried to arrest me, but I used a false identity and they still don’t know who I am. That was two weeks ago
Posted 02 Oct 2008 at 10:20 pm ¶Kyle: Ha!
BobbyRevell: This is why I never eat Raisin Bran. I think trail mix is probably made the same way too.
Posted 03 Oct 2008 at 11:33 pm ¶I don’t lick or eat nuts unless I’ve unwrapped them myself!
Posted 11 Oct 2008 at 2:39 am ¶Mik: Now THAT would be an interesting video post.
